Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 05/04/2018Salaciopsis glomerata is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia with a large scattered distribution between the Massif du Sud and Ile des Pins and the central part of Grande Terre. This species is found in dense humid forest on ultramafic substrate, from 100 to 1,050 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 5,288 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 60 km², S. glomerata is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
S. glomerata is endemic to New Caledonia where it has a large and scattered distribution between the Massif du Sud and Ile des Pins and the central part of Grande Terre.
Population
Population size is unknown but field observations show it is a common and abundant species.
Habitat
S. glomerata is found in dense humid forest on ultramafic substrate, from 100 to 1,050 m asl.
Threats
Despite being sensitive to vegetation degradation linked fires, Rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) and mining activities (Camp des sapins (SLN), Goro (VALE)), this species does not seem directly threatened thanks to its wide distribution in the area.
Conservation
S. sparsiflora is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in several protected areas: Rivière bleue, Haute Dumbéa, Aoupinié, Massif du Kouakoué, la Dumbéa and Vallée de la Thy.
