Ascarina solmsiana is an endemic shrub and small tree from New Caledonia. It has a scattered distribution across Grande Terre, from Yaté to Ouégoa. It occurs in forest undergrowth on volcano-sedimentary substrate from 300 to 1,500 m asl. Some subpopulations may be impacted by habitat degradation by animal invasives (feral pigs) but globally this species does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 5,506 and 148 km², respectively. Therefore, Ascarina solmsiana is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Threats


Some subpopulations may be impacted by habitat degradation by animal invasives (feral pigs) but globally this species does not seem to be threatened.

Conservation


Ascarina solmsiana is unprotected by legislation in New Caledonia but it occurs in several protected areas: Rivière bleue, Côte Oubliée, Haute Dumbéa, la Dumbéa, Vallée de la Thy, Aoupinié, Mont Panié.
