Hunga minutiflora is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia, restricted to the south of Grande Terre, from the far south to Tontouta-Thio. It occurs in dense humid forest and shrubland on ultramafic substrate from 50 to 850 m asl. The main threats to this species are bushfires, mining activities. Population does not seem to decline. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to 72 and 1,720 km², Hunga minutiflora is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii) with an estimated decline of the concerned subcriteria.
Geographical area
Hunga minutiflora is endemic to New Caledonia where it is restricted to the south of Grande Terre, from the far south to Tontouta-Thio.
Population
The population size is not known.
Habitat
Hunga minutiflora occurs in dense humid forest and shrubland on ultramafic substrate from 50 to 850 m asl.
Threats
The main threats to this species are bushfires, mining activities. Population does not seem to decline.
Conservation
Hunga minutiflora is protected by legislation in Province Nord and it occurs in two protected areas: Pic du Pin, Barrage de Yaté.
