Vulnerable (VU) , assessed in 21/07/2016Codia albifrons is an endemic shrub of the south of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It is found in shrubland and low forest at mid and high altitude on ultramafic substrate. The main threats impacting this species are bushfires on several subpopulations and on-going mining activities in Goro. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being estimated respectively to 36 and 581 km², Codia albifrons is considered Vulnerable (VU) using criteria B1ab(i,ii,iii,iv,v)+2ab(i,ii,iii,iv,v) with an estimation of 6-7 locations and an estimated decline of all sub-criteria.
Geographical area
Codia albifrons is restricted to the south of Grande Terre in New Caledonia (Montagne des Sources, Plaine des Lacs...).
Population
This species is known of few subpopulations. This species is abundant on Montagne des Sources.
Habitat
It is found in shrubland and low forest at mid and high altitude (250-1,050 m asl) on ultramafic substrate.
Threats
The main threats impacting this species are bushfires on several subpopulations (vallée de la Thy, Montagne des Sources) and on-going mining activities in Goro.
Conservation
Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in numerous protected areas : Haute Yaté, Rivière bleue, Pic du Pin, Montagne des sources, Vallée de la Thy, Haute Pourina
