Codia discolor is an endemic shrub/small tree of the south and central part of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It is found in shrubland and forest at low and high altitude on ultramafic substrate. This species does not seem directly threatened. Codia discolor is considered Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Codia discolor is spread in the south and central part of Grande Terre in New Caledonia, from Monéo and MéMaoya in the north to Yaté in the south.
Population
Population size is unknown.
Habitat
This species is found in shrubland and forest at low and high altitude on ultramafic substrate (15-1,200 m asl) on an ultramafic substrate.
Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities (Poro, Kouaoua, Camp des Sapins, Tontouta, Goro). This species can regenerate after a fire (it grows back from the stump).
Conservation
This species is easy to grow in plant nurseries and is used in vegetation restoration. Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in numerous protected areas : Pic du grand Kaori, Mont Mou, Vallée de la Thy, Montagne des sources, Pic du Pin, Foret Nord, Rivière bleue, Bois du Sud, Haute Dumbéa, la Dumbéa, Mont Do.
