Cunonia atrorubens is an endemic shrub/small tree of the southern half of Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It is found in shrubland or low forest at mid and high altitude on ultramafic substrate. This species does not seem directly threatened. Cunonia atrorubens is considered Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


This species is spread in the southern half of Grande Terre in New Caledonia, from Montagne des Sources to Mont Do.

Population


This species is known from 10-12 subpopulations.

Habitat


It is found in shrubland or low forest at mid and high altitude (500-1,600 ma sl) on ultramafic substrate.

Threats


This species does not seem globally threatened.

Conservation


This species is easy to grow in plant nurseries and could be used more often in ecological restoration. Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in numerous protected areas : Massif du Kouakoué, Forêt de Saille, Montagne des sources, Mont Do, la Dumbéa, Mont Mou, Mont Humboldt, Haute Dumbéa.
