Pancheria confusa is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia. It is found in shrubland, more rarely in forest or in flooded areas on ultramafic substrate at low, mid and high altitude. This species does not seem directly threatened. Pancheria confusa is considered Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Pancheria confusa is widely spread across Grande Terre, in the southern part (Pic Malaoui, Plaine des lacs) and in the north-west on ultramafic massifs.
Population
This species is known from 12-15 subpopulations.
Habitat
It is found in shrubland, more rarely in forest or in flooded areas on ultramafic substrate at low, mid and high altitude (150-1,200 m asl).
Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities (Kaala, Taom, Koniambo, Kopéto, MéMaoya, Ménazi, Kouaoua, Goro).
Conservation
Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in two protected areas : Chute de la Madeleine, Barrage de Yaté. This species could be used in ecological restoration.
