Pancheria elegans is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia. It is found in shrubland and forest, nearby waterways, on ultramafic substrate at low and mid altitude. This species does not seem directly threatened. Pancheria elegans is considered Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Pancheria elegans is widely spread across Grande Terre, in the southern part and in the north-west on ultramafic massifs..
Population
This species is common.
Habitat
It is found in shrubland and forest, nearby waterways, on ultramafic substrate at low and mid altitude (0-500 m asl).
Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities (Poum, Tiébaghi, Kaala, Taom, Koniambo, Cap Bocage, Thio, Tontouta) and bushfires.
Conservation
This species is easy to grow in plant nurseries and should be used more often in ecological restoration. Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in several protected areas : Massif du Kouakoué, Haute Dumbéa, Forêt de Saille, Haute Yaté, Rivière bleue, Mont Mou, Montagne des sources.
