Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 27/04/2015Hibbertia patula is an endemic tree of New Caledonia where it appears to be restricted to the southern part of the main island, Grande Terre. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 2,538 km2, an area of occupancy (AOO) of 88 km2 and around 12 known subpopulations, some of which occur within a protected area, Hibbertia patula is assigned a status of Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Hibbertia patula is an endemic tree of New Caledonia where it appears to be restricted to the southern part of the main island, Grande Terre, with Presqu'île de Bogota as eastern border.
Population
Population size is unknown. This species is always found as isolated plant.
Habitat
H. patula is found on ligno-herbaceous shrubland and humid forest on ultramafic soils at an altitudinal range 150 - 1200 asl.
Threats
Fire may affect some sub-populations on ligno-herbaceous shrubland (three out of 10 sub-populations).
Conservation
H.patula is not protected by legislation but it occurs in several protected areas (réserve naturelle du Mont Humboldt, réserve naturelle du Massif du Kouakoué, réserve naturelle du Mont Mou, réserve intégrale de la Montagne des Sources, Parc Provincial de la Rivière Bleue, réserve naturelle du Barrage de Yaté, réserve naturelle de la Fausse Yaté, réserve naturelle de la forêt de Saille,réserve naturelle de la Haute Pourina).
