Diospyros brassica is an endemic shrub/small tree of New Caledonia spread in north-east Grande Terre from Tango to Colnett. It occurs in humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate at an altitudinal range 400 - 950 m asl. The main impact identified comes from vegetation degradation linked to invasive species. However, this species does not seem globally threatened. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to 52 and 697 km², Diospyros brassica is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii) with a decline of habitat quality and a number of locations slightly over 10.

Population


Regeneration has been observed. This species is composed of scatterred individuals but is not rare.

It occurs in humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate at an altitudinal range 400 - 950 m asl.

The main impact identified comes from vegetation degradation linked to invasive species. Overall, this species doe snot seem threatened.

Conservation


This species is protected by legislation in Province Nord but not in Province Sud. It occurs in one protected area: Mont Panié.
