Diospyros labillardierei is an endemic small tree of New Caledonia spread in central and north-east Grande Terre. Diospyros labillardierei occurs in dense humid forest at low altitude (0 - 400 m asl) on volcano-sedimentary substrate. This species does not seem directly threatened. Diospyros labillardierei is considered Least Concern (LC).

This species is protected by legislation in Province Nord but not in Province Sud.
