Dubouzetia caudiculata is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia, where it is present on the ultramafic massifs in the northwest of Grande Terre. It occurs in shrubland, forest edges and forests on ultramafic soil from 20 to 900 m asl. Known from a dozen locations, its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 2,467 and 120 km², respectively. The main threat is posed by bushfires, mining activities and invasive species (rusa deer, Rusa timorensis). Therefore, D. caudiculata is listed as Near Threatened (NT), close to VU under criteria B1ab(i,ii,iii,iv,v)+2ab(i,ii,iii,iv,v).

Geographical area


D. caudiculata is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is present on the ultramafic massifs in the northwest of Grande Terre, from Mé Maoya (Poya) to Tiébaghi (Koumac).

Population


Population size is unknown.

Habitat


D. caudiculata occurs in shrubland ('maquis' vegetation), forest edges and forests on ultramafic soil from 20 to 900 m asl.

Threats


The main threats are bushfires, mining activities at Tiébaghi, Kopéto, Etoile du Nord (SLN) and Ouazangou (SMNC), as well as invasive species (rusa deer, Rusa timorensis).

Conservation


This species is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occur in any protected areas. It would be interesting to preserve this species ex situ, since it is easy to grow and has good potential for ornament.
