Dubouzetia elegans var. elegans is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia, where it is the sole representative of the species. Largely distributed across Grande Terre, it occurs in shrubland, transitional vegetation and forest on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrate between 100 and 900 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 10,554 and 188 km², respectively. The main impacts are caused by bushfires and mining activities, but the taxon does not appear to be directly threatened at the moment. Therefore, D. elegans var. elegans is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
D. elegans var. elegans is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is largely distributed across Grande Terre: Koumac, from Koniambo to Boulinda and from Ponérihouen to Thio, around col d'Amieu, Far South, Prony, Port Boisé.
Population
Population size is unknown.
Habitat
D. elegans var. elegans occurs in shrubland ('maquis' vegetation), transitional vegetation and forest on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrates between 100 and 900 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem directly threatened at the moment. However, some subpopulations are impacted by bushfires and mining activities.
Conservation
This species is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia, but it occurs in two protected areas: Parc de la Rivière Bleue and Haute Yaté.
