Elaeocarpus bullatus is an endemic tree from New Caledonia, where it has a scattered distribution in the south as well as the central and northeastern mountain ranges of Grande Terre. It occurs in dense humid forest on vocano-sedimentary soil between 375 and 1,100 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 4,865 and 88 km², respectively. Some subpopulations are impacted by bushfires and invasive species, but globally the species is not threatened. Therefore, E. bullatus is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
E. bullatus is endemic to New Caledonia, where it has a scattered distribution in the south (Koghi mountains), as well as the central and northeastern mountain ranges of Grande Terre: from Farino to Mandjélia (Pouébo).
Population
Population size is unknown.
Habitat
E. bullatus occurs in dense humid forest on vocano-sedimentary soil between 375 and 1,100 m asl.
Threats
Some subpopulations are impacted by bushfires and invasive species (rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) and feral pigs (Sus scrofa)), but globally the species is not threatened.
Conservation
This species is protected by legislation in Province Nord and occurs in four protected areas (Aoupinié, Montagne des Sources, Panié and Parc des Grandes Fougères).
