Elaeocarpus leratii is an endemic tree from New Caledonia, where it has a scattered distribution across Grande Terre. It occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic soil up to 300 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 8,768 and 100 km², respectively. Some subpopulations are impacted by mining activities or bushfires, but globally the species is not threatened. Therefore, E. leratii is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


E. leratii is endemic to New Caledonia, where it has a scattered distribution across Grande Terre: from Cap N'Dua (Mont-Dore) to Tiébaghi (Koumac).

Population


Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate the species is scarce.

Habitat


E. leratii occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic soil up to 300 m asl.

Threats


Some subpopulations are impacted by bushfires or mining activities (Goro, Vale). But globally the species is not threatened.

Conservation


This species is protected by legislation in Province Nord and occurs in three protected areas: Cap N'Dua, Forêt Nord and Pic du grand kaori.
