Elaeocarpus seringii is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia, where it is distributed on the northwestern massifs of Grande Terre, as well as the Bélep Islands and the east coast. It occurs in shrubland or forest, mostly on ultramafic soil from 100 to 800 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 9,490 and 144 km², respectively. Some subpopulations are impacted by bushfires or mining activities but globally the species is not threatened. Therefore, E. seringii is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


E. seringii is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is distributed in the northwestern massifs of Grande Terre (Poum, Tiébaghi, Kaala, Ouazangou, Taom, Oua Tilou, Koniambo, Katépahié, Kopéto, Boulinda, Dent de Poya), as well as the Bélep Islands and a few scattered localities on the east coast (Panié massif, Ponérihouen, Bogota).

Population size is unknown.

E. seringii occurs in shrubland ('maquis') or forest, mostly on ultramafic soil from 100 to 800 m asl.

Threats


Some subpopulations are impacted by bushfires or mining activities (Kopéto and Tiébaghi, SLN ; Ouazangou, NMC ; Michel 38, SMT), but globally the species is not threatened.

Conservation


This species is protected by legislation in Province Nord, but does not occur in any protected areas.
