Sloanea magnifolia is an endemic tree from New Caledonia, where it has a scattered distribution in the center and northeast of Grande Terre. It occurs in dense humid forest undergrowth on volcano-sedimentary soil between 50 and 1,000 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 1,907 and 64 km², respectively. Some subpopulations are impacted by bushfires and invasive species, but globally the species does not seem globally threatened. Therefore, S. magnifolia is listed as Least Concern (LC).

S. magnifolia is endemic to New Caledonia, where it has a scattered distribution in the center and the northeast of Grande Terre: col d'Amieu, Dogny, Aoupinié, Tchamba, Ouaïème.

Population


Population size is unknown.

Habitat


S. magnifolia occurs in dense humid forest undergrowth on volcano-sedimentary substrate from 50 to 1,000 m asl.

Threats


Some subpopulations are impacted by bushfires and invasive species (rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) and feral pigs (Sus scrofa)), but globally the species does not seem globally threatened.

Conservation


This species is protected by legislation in Province Nord and occurs in two protected areas: Parc des Grandes Fougères and Aoupinié. It is not well known and rarely collected, so further prospection is recommended in the central mountain range.
