in Northern ProvinceSloanea suaveolens is an endemic tree from New Caledonia, where it is only known from the Tonine massif, in the north of Grande Terre. This little known species has not been observed since 1973. It occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary soil between 800 and 1,000 m asl. Known from a single location, its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are both 4 km². The main threat is posed by invasive species, causing habitat degradation. Therefore, S. suaveolens is listed as Critically Endangered (CR) under criteria B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii).

S. suaveolens is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is only known from the Tonine massif, in the north of Grande Terre.

Population size is unknown.
Habitat
S. suaveolens occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary soil between 800 and 1,000 m asl.
Threats
The species is thought to be impacted by invasive species (rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) and feral pigs (Sus scrofa)).
Conservation
This species is protected by legislation in Province Nord, but does not occur in any protected areas. Being only known from an ancient collection (1973), it is recommended to seek it out on the Tonine massif, to better estimate population size and understand its threats.
