Styphelia dammarifolia is a shrub endemic to New Caledonia, with a scattered distribution in the southeastern and western central part of Grande Terre. This species is found in dense forest undergrowth and scrubland on ultramafic substrate from 20 to 972 m asl. Known from 10 locations, its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 2,940 km² and 48 km², respectively. The main threats are minig activities. S. dammarifolia is therefore listed as Vulnerable (VU) under criteria B1ab(iii,v)+B2ab(iii,v).

Population
Population size is unknown: this species has not been collected often by botanists, and it may be more widespread than the actual distribution.
Habitat
S. dammarifolia occurs in dense humid forest undergrowth and scrubland on ultramafic substrate from 20 to 972 m asl.
Threats
The main theat is mining activities at Kouaoua (SLN) and Nakéty (SMT).
Conservation
S. dammarifolia is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia and does not occur in any protected areas. This species would benefit from ex situ and in situ emergency conservation actions. Prospection on other similar massifs is also recommended to determine the size of the population and better understand potential threats. This species should be collected more, and genetic studies are suggested in order to facilitate species identification within this genus.
