Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 08/11/2022Scagea depauperata is a shrub or small tree growing up to 10 m high, endemic from New Caledonia. It is widely distributed across the Grande Terre, as well as in Belep islands in the north and Ile des Pins in the south. This species occurs in dense humid forest and maquis on ultramafic substrate up to nearly 600 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) is equal to 10,495 km² and its area of occupancy (AOO) equal to 132 km², respectively. It is quite common and does not seem threatened. Therefore, Scagea depauperata is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Scagea depauperata is endemic to New Caledonia where it is widely distributed across the Grande Terre, as well as in Belep islands in the north and Ile des Pins in the south.
Population
The population size is not known. Field observations indicate that the species is quite common.
Habitat
This species occurs in dense humid forest and maquis on ultramafic substrate up to nearly 600 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem to be threatened.
Conservation
Scagea depauperata is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in five protected areas : Pic du grand Kaori, Barrage de Yaté, Foret Nord, Parc des Grandes Fougères, Pic du Pin.
