Xylosma lancifolium is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is restricted in the east coast of Grande Terre, from Néavin to Tchamba. This shrub is found in gallery or secondary forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate up to 150 m asl. Known from 6 locations, its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) are 32 km² and 194 km², respectively. The main threat is posed by rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) and uncontrolled fires. Therefore, X. lancifolium is listed as Vulnerable (VU) under criteria B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v).
X. lancifolium is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the central east coast of Grande Terre: from Néavin to Haute Amoa.
Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate the species is locally abundant at Vallée de Po (D. & I. Létocart, comm. pers.).
X. lancifolium occurs in gallery or secondary forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate up to 150 m asl.
The main threats are uncontrolled bushfires, as well as rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) in four locations: Amoa, Tchamba, Néavin and Vallée de Po.
X. lancifolium is protected by legislation in Province Nord, but does not occur in any protected areas. This species would benefit from ex situ and in situ emergency conservation actions. It is recommended to inform the local authority responsible for the coordination of the firefighting effort about the presence of the species in the concerned areas. The New Caledonian Wilderness Conservation Agency (Conservatoire d'espaces naturels), which coordinates the local Invasive Species Programme, should also be informed on the species' situation in areas impacted by deer.
