Sparattosyce balansae is an endemic tree (up to 6 m high) distributed from the center to the north east of Grande Terre, from Col de Petchicara to Ouégoa. This species is also observed at Wadjana-Goro et Grand Lac but herbarium specimens are required to confirm these localities. This species is locally abondant at Col d'Amieu and Tchamba and may have a wider range of distribution since these tall trees are seldom sampled. This species occurs in dense humid forest mostly on ultramafic substrate between 50 to 800 m asl. Some subpopulations may be impacted by bushfires and mining activities, but overall the species is not threatened. Despite having an area of occupancy (AOO) and an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 76 and 4,084 km² respectively, S. balansae is not thought to approach the conditions for listing as threatened under any criterion and is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Population

Population size is unknown but field observations indicate a quite common species at Col d'Amieu and Tchamba.

Habitat

Sparattosyce balansae occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary and ultramafic substrate between 50 to 800 m asl.

Threats

Some subpopulations may be impacted by bushfires (Amoss, Tchamba, Col de Petchicara, Creek Pernod) and mining activities at Goro, but overall the species is not threatened.

Conservation

Sparattosyce balansae is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in only one protected areas: Aoupinié.
