Archirhodomyrtus baladensis is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia, where it is widely distributed accross Grande Terre. This species is abundant and occurs in shrubland, gallery forest edges or dense humid forest on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrate up to 1,022 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) area of occupancy (AOO) are 10,716 and 220 km², respectively, and the species does not appear to be threatened. Therefore, A. baladensis is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


A. baladensis is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is widely distributed accross Grande Terre.

Population


Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that the species is locally abundant.

Habitat


This species is abundant and occurs in shrubland, gallery forest edges or dense humid forest on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrate up to 1,100 m asl.

Threats


A. baladensis does not seem threatened at the moment, although some subpopulations could be impacted by bushfires and mining activities: Vulcain, Camp des Sapins and Tiébaghi (SLN), Koniambo (KNS). This species could also be subject to myrtle rust (Austropuccinia psidii).

Conservation


A. baladensis is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia, but it occurs in two protected areas: Aoupinié and Forêt de Saille.
