Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 17/11/2017Archirhodomyrtus turbinata is an endemic shrub or small tree from New Caledonia, where it has a scattered distribution on Grande Terre. This species occurs in shrubland and dense humide forest on ultramafic substrate between 400 and 900 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are 3,291 and 152 km², respectively. Therefore, A. turbinata is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
A. turbinata is an endemic shrub or small tree from New Caledonia, where it has a scattered distribution on Grande Terre : in the south, where it is common from Tontouta to Goro, and in the centre (Bourail).
Population
Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that the species is quite common in the south of Grande Terre.
Habitat
A. turbinata occurs in shrubland and dense humide forest on ultramafic substrate between 400 and 900 m asl.
Threats
A. turbinata does not seem threatened, although some subpopulations could be impacted by mining activities (Vulcain (SLN) and Goro (Vale)) and uncontrolled bushfires.
Conservation
A. turbinata is not protected by any local legislation, but it does occur in numerous protected areas: Rivière Bleue, Pic du Pin, Massif du Kouakoué, Chutes de la Madeleine, Forêt Nord, Nodéla and Haute Yaté.
