Cloezia artensis var. basilaris is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia, restricted to the Great Southern Massif of Grande Terre. This taxon is found in shrubland on ultramafic substrate up to 820 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are equal to 3,105 km² and 88 km², respectively. This taxon is quite common and locally abundant and does not seem threatened. Therefore, Cloezia artensis var. basilaris is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


C. artensis var. basilaris is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the south of Grande Terre (Great Southern Massif), from Goro to Poro.

Population


Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that this taxon is quite common and locally abundant.

Habitat


C. artensis var. basilaris occurs in shrubland on ultramafic substrate up to 820 m asl.

Threats


This abundant taxon does not seem to be threatened at the moment, although some sub-populations may be impacted by uncontrolled bushfires and mining activity (Goro (Vale), Plateau (SLN)).

Conservation


C. artensis var. basilaris not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in one protected area: Barrage de Yaté.
