in Southern ProvinceCanacomyrica monticola is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia, widespread in southern Grande Terre from Thio in the north to Goro in the south. It occurs in forest or shrubland on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 160-1,300 m asl. The main impact identified comes from mining activites around Goro and bushfires. Its area of occupation (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to 116 and 2,221 km², Canacomyrica monticola is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v) with a decline of habitat quality and a number of locations above 10.

Canacomyrica monticola is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia, widespread in southern Grande Terre from Thio in the north to Goro in the south.
Population
This species is quite common in southern Grande Terre.
Habitat
It occurs in forest or shrubland on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 160-1,300 m asl.
Threats
The main impact identified comes from mining activites around Goro and bushfires. A subpopulation could be impacted in the near future with the Ouinné hydroelectric dam project.
Conservation
Protected species by legislation, this species occurs in several protected areas : Rivière bleue, Mont Humboldt, Montagne des sources, Vallée de la Thy, Forêt de Saille, Haute Yaté, Mont Mou, Massif du Kouakoué, Haute Pourina It is recommended to continue conservation efforts for the population around Goro. This species has a high phylogenetic importance as it is the only species of the genus of Canacomyrica in the small family Myricaceae (3 genera).
