Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 26/01/2018Syzygium neolaurifolium is an endemic shrub or tree of New Caledonia with a large and scattered distribution in Grande Terre, between the north east and the Massif du Sud. This species is abundant and it is found in dense humid forest and shrubland on ultramafic substrates up to 800 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 9,094 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 172 km², S. neolaurifolium has no apparent threat and is not thought to approach the requirements for listing as threatened. It is listed as Least Concern (LC).

S. neolaurifolium is endemic to New Caledonia where it has a large and scattered distribution in Grande Terre, between the north east and the Massif du Sud.
Population
Population size is unknown but based on field observations, it is a common species.
Habitat
S. neolaurifolium occurs in dense humid forest and shrubland on ultramafic substrates up to 800 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem to be threatened, although some subpopulations may be impacted by fires and mining activities at Goro.
Conservation
S. neolaurifolium is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in several protected areas: Pic du grand Kaori, Aoupinié, Mont Panié, Barrage de Yaté, Foret Nord, Haute Yaté, Rivière bleue and Forêt cachée.
