Pittosporum croceum is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia whose distribution area stretches from Mount Boulinda to Koumac. It is a shrubland species on ultramafic soils occurring at an altitudinal range 10-900 m asl, its area of occupancy and its extent of occurrence are equal to 76 and 1149 km² respectively. Due to a lack of data, trends in its population size nor number of mature individuals are unknown. Across the 7 locations identified, threats include bushfire, urban sprawl of the area Voh-Koné-Pouembout, damage caused by rusa deer (Rusa timorensis), and mining activities. Using criteria B, P. croceum qualifies as Vulnerable B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v).
