Pittosporum paniense is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia, known only from Mont Panié, Mont Colnett and Roches de la Ouaïème. A species of dense humid forest on micaschist found at an altitudinal range 700-1600 m asl, its area of occupancy and extent of occurrence cover 16 and 38 km² respectively. According to field observations, population size is estimated to be fewer than 1,000 mature individuals. Using criteria D, P. paniense qualifies as Vulnerable (VU) D1+2.

P. paniense is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia, known only from Mont Panié, Mont Colnett and Roches de la Ouaïème.

Population


Population of P. paniense is estimated to be fewer than 1,000 mature individuals.

Habitat


P. paniense is a species of dense humid forest on micaschist found at an altitudinal range 700-1,600 m asl.

Threats


Due to its ecology and repartition area, P. paniense could be affected by damages on its habitat caused by wild pigs or fruit predation by rat.

Conservation


Protected species by legislation in Province Nord, P. paniense is also found in réserve de nature sauvage du mont Panié. In order to improve knowledge on its distribution, field surveys are required on area close to known stations.
