Endemic shrub of New Caledonia, Beauprea montisfontium is only distributed in the south of Grande Terre, from the far south of Grande Terre to the upper limit at Tontouta and Mont Humboldt area. It occurs in scrublands, forest borders and dense forest on ultramafic soil at an altitudinal range 250-1,600 m asl. Its Area of Occupancy and its Extent of Occurrence cover 76 and 775 km² respectively. The populations are threatened by uncontrolled bushfires in lower elevation forest borders, land clearing involved in the wind power project at Mamié. However these threats are lower in high elevation stations. With a projected continuous decline of the number of mature individuals, it seems appropriate to classify Beauprea montisfontium under the category Near Threatened (NT) close to (VU) B1ab(ii,iii,v)+2ab(ii,iii,v).

Beauprea montisfontium is endemic to New Caledonia where it is only distributed on the south part of Grande Terre, from the far south of Grande Terre to the upper limit at Tontouta and Mont Humboldt area.

The population size is not known.

Beauprea montisfontium is protected by legislation in Province Nord and it occurs in four protected areas : Mont Humboldt, Côte Oubliée, Massif du Kouakoué, Montagne des sources.
