Psychotria baladensis is an endemic shrub, spread in Grande Terre from Mandjélia to Roches Ouaïème in the north of New Caledonia. Psychotria baladensis occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary at an altitudinal range 275-900 m asl. The main impact identified may come from bushfires, however it is a forest species and population does not seem to decline. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to 28 and 118 km², Psychotria baladensis is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii) with a decline of habitat quality.

This species does not seem globally threatened. The main impact identified may come from bushfires, however it is a forest species and population does not seem to decline.
Conservation
Psychotria baladensis is unprotected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in one protected area : Mont Panié.
