Psychotria gabriellae is an endemic shrub, widespread in Grande Terre from Kaala in the north to Mont Dore in the south of New Caledonia. It occurs in dense humid forest on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 0-1,200 m asl. This species does not seem globally threatened. Psychotria gabriellae is considered Least Concern (LC).

This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities: Goro (VALE), Kouaoua (SLN).
