Psychotria leratii is an endemic shrub, widespread in Grande Terre from Mt Paeoua in the north to Forêt Nord in the south of New Caledonia. It occurs in forest on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 0-1,060 m asl. This species does not seem globally threatened. Psychotria leratii is considered Least Concern (LC).

This species does not seem globally threatened. Some subpopulations may be threatened by mining activities: Goro (VALE).
