It occurs in forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate from 400 to 900 m asl. This species is common in forests. Some subpopulations may be impacted by habitat degradation resulting from bushfires and animal invasives (Rusa deer, feral pigs), but globally this species does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 4,267 and 144 km², respectively. Therefore, Tarenna ignambiensis is listed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Tarenna ignambiensis is endemic to New Caledonia where it is distributed in the northern half part, north east of the Grande Terre, from Koindé to Ouégoa.
Population
Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that this species is common.
Habitat
This species occurs in forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate from 400 to 900 m asl.
Threats
Some subpopulations may be impacted by habitat degradation resulting from bushfires and animal invasives (Rusa deer, feral pigs), but globally this species does not seem to be threatened.
Conservation
Tarenna ignambiensis is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it occurs in two protected areas : Mont Panié, Aoupinié.
