Tarenna microcarpa is an endemic shrub from New Caledonia, where it is widely distributed across Grande Terre. This species is also present on Bélep islands and Lifou (Loyalty Islands). The species is common and it occurs in dense humid forest or shrubland on various substrates up to 800 m asl. Some subpopulations may be impacted by habitat degradation by bushfires but globally this species does not seem to be threatened. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 48,624 and 404 km², respectively. Therefore, Tarenna microcarpa is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


Tarenna microcarpa is endemic to New Caledonia where it is widely distributed across Grande Terre. This species is also present on Bélep islands and Lifou (Loyalty Islands).

Population


Population size is unknown, but field observations indicate that this species is very common.

Habitat


This species occurs in dense humid forest or shrubland on various substrates up to 800 m asl.

Threats


Some subpopulations may be impacted by habitat degradation by bushfires but globally this species does not seem to be threatened.

Conservation


Tarenna hexamera is unprotected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in three protected areas : Montagne des sources, la Dumbéa, Cap N'dua.
