Picrella ignambiensis is an endemic shrub or tree (2-10 m high) distributed in the north east half part of Grande Terre: from Aoupinié to Col d'Amoss, with an extension to Sarraméa in the central part of Grande Terre. This species occurs in dense humid forest and more rarely in degraded shrubland on volcano-sedimentary substrate up to 1,530 m asl. This species does not globally threatened. Therefore with an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 1,967 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 180 km², Picrella ignambiensi is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


Picrella ignambiensis is endemic to New Caledonia where it is restricted in the northern half of Grande Terre, from Aoupinié to Col d'Amoss,with an extension to Sarraméa in the central part of Grande Terre.

Population


Population size is unknown but field observations indicate a quite common species.

Habitat


Picrella ignambiensis occurs in dense humid forest and more rarely in degraded shrubland on volcano-sedimentary substrate up to 1,530 m asl.

Threats


This species does not seem globally threatened. However, some subpopulations may be impacted by bushfires (Amos, Pouébo, Ouaième, Plateau de Tango).

Conservation


Picrella ignambiensis is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in 2 protected areas: Aoupinié, Mont Panié.
