found in humid forest on an ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 400-900 m asl. Its population is made of groups of few individuals with very little regeneration. This species does not seem actually directly threatened thanks to its habitat quality. However, New Caledonian official records indicate that forest fires and bushfires destroy, on average, nearly 500 km2 per year, and the Dzumac area has a high risk of wildfire impact (combining fire severity and vegetation loss) (Mangeas et al. 2019). The population is located near the track way to Mont Dzumac so there is a high plausible risk of fire ignition. As its area of occupancy is tiny (estimated to be 16 km²), Elattostachys dzumacensis is assessed as Vulnerable (VU) with criteria D2 as the possibility that the extension of recurrent bushfires could rapidly drive the species to CR.

Geographical area

Elattostachys dzumacensis is a shrub or tree restricted to the south of Grande Terre in New Caledonia in the area of the Dzumac.

Population

Few regeneration has been observed. It is found per groups of few individuals.

Threats

This species does not seem directly threatened, thanks to its habitat quality. However, recurrent bushfires impact nearby areas.

Conservation

Elattostachys dzumacensis is not legally protected. This species is present in one protected area: réserve naturelle de la Haute-Dumbéa.
