Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 02/05/2019Storthocalyx chryseus is an endemic big tree (up to 12 m high) largely distributed in Grande Terre. This species occurs in dense humid and mesophylis forest mostly on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrate up to 950 m asl. This species is locally abondant and does not seem threatened. Therefore with an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 13,401 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 324 km², S. chryseus is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Storthocalyx chryseus is an endemic species of New Caledonia where it is widely spread in Grande Terre.
Population
Population size is unknown but field observations indicate a quite common species.
Habitat
Storthocalyx chryseusoccurs in dense humid and mesophylis forest mostly on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrate up to 950 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened.
Conservation
Storthocalyx chryseus is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in several protected areas: Pic du grand Kaori, Mont Panié, la Dumbéa, Haute Dumbéa, Foret Nord, Aoupinié, Rivière bleue.
