Planchonella saligna is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the northeast of Grande Terre. It grows in riparian vegetation on volcano-sedimentary substrate up to 200 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 990 and 60 km², respectively, and no significant threats have been identified to this day. Therefore, P. saligna is listed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


P. saligna is endemic to New Caledonia, where it is restricted to the northeast of Grande Terre, from Nébouéba (Ponérihouen) to Paala (Ouégoa).

Population size is unknown.

Habitat


This shrub grows in riparian vegetation on volcano-sedimentary substrate up to 200 m asl.

Threats


No significant threats have been identified to this day.

Conservation


P. saligna is protected by legislation in Province Nord and occurs in one protected area: Mt. Panié natural reserve. Prospection and collections are suggested to improve knowledge on the distribution of this species, which is probably larger than what is currently known.
