It is essentially found in humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate at an altitudinal range 450-1150 m asl. This species is largely distributed and does not seem directly threatened. Pycnandra controversa is considered Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Pycnandra controversa is largely distributed across Grande Terre in New Caledonia, from Mount Mandjélia to Mount Pembaï.
Population
This species is quite common. It is known from 10-12 sub-populations.
Habitat
Pycnandra controversa is found in humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate at an altitudinal range 450-1150 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened.
Conservation
Unprotected by legislation, P. controversa occurs in two protected areas : Mont Panié, Aoupinié.
