Pycnandra vieillardii is an endemic shrub or small tree of Grande Terre in New Caledonia, from Col d'Amoss in the North to Col de Roussettes in the South. It is found in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate at an altitudinal range 50-600 m asl. The main impact identified comes from bushfires that can affect lower subpopulations. Therefore, this species does not seem globally threatened. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to 60 and 2,720 km², Pycnandra vieillardii is considered Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v) with a decline of habitat quality and number of mature individuals.

Population


It is known from ten subpopulations and appears to be a an uncommon species.

Threats


This species does not seem globally threatened. Some of the lowest subpopulations may be threatened by bushfires.

Conservation


Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in one protected area : Aoupinié.
