Pycnandra heteromera is an endemic shrub or tree of Grande Terre in New Caledonia, found from Ouenghi to Fausse Yaté. It is found in shrubland on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 300-1,000 m asl. The main impact identified comes from bushfires. The subpopulation in Mount Dore is suspected of having been destroyed by fire. Its area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) being respectively estimated to 32 and 748 km², it is therefore considered Vulnerable (VU) according to criteria B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii) with a decline of habitat quality and a number of locations equal to 7.
Geographical area
Pycnandra heteromera is an endemic shrub or tree of Grande Terre in New Caledonia, from Ouenghi in the North to Fausse Yaté in the South.
Population
It is known from 7 subpopulations. The subpopulation in Mont Dore is suspected to have been destroyed by a recent fire. The known subpopulations have each only few individuals and the species appears to be naturally uncommon.

Pycnandra heteromera is found in shrubland on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range 300-1,000 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened. Some of the lowest subpopulations may be threatened by bushfires. The subpopulation from Mont-Dore is suspected to have been destroyed by a recent fire.
Conservation
Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in four protected areas: la Dumbéa, Barrage de Yaté, Pic du Pin, Haute Dumbéa.
