Vulnerable (VU) , assessed in 07/04/2017

Sphenostemon thibaudii is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia, restricted to the Panié massif in northern Grande Terre. It occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate at an altitudinal range 600-900 m asl. This species does not seem directly threatened but invasive species (rusa deer (Rusa timorensis), feral pig) impact other areas of the massif. Its area of occupancy (AOO) being estimated to 8 km² but probably slightly more, Sphenostemon thibaudii is assessed as Vulnerable (VU) with criteria D2 with the possibility that the progress of invasive species could rapidly drive the species to CR.
