Austrobuxus eugeniifolius is a shrub or tree growing up to 3 m to 10 m high, endemic from New Caledonia. This species is widely distributed across the Grande Terre, from Dumbéa to Kaala-Gomen-Pouebo. It occurs in dense humid forest and scrublands on ultramafic substrate up to 1,250 m asl. Its extent of occurrence (EOO) is estimated to be 9,657 km² and its area of occupancy (AOO) 208 km². This species is quite common and does not seem threatened. Therefore, Austrobuxus eugeniifolius is listed as Least Concern (LC)

Geographical area


Austrobuxus eugeniifolius is endemic to New Caledonia where it is widely distributed across the Grande Terre, from Dumbéa to Kaala-Gomen-Pouebo.

Population


The population size is not known. Field observations indicate that the species is quite common.

Habitat


This species occurs in dense humid forest and scrublands on ultramafic substrate up to 1,250 m asl.

Threats


This species does not seem to be threatened.

Conservation


Austrobuxus eugeniifolius is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia but it does occur in several protected areas : Forêt de Saille, Haute Dumbéa, la Dumbéa, Montagne des sources, Mont Do, Mont Humboldt, Vallée de la Thy, Mont Mou, Côte Oubliée.
