Codiaeum brongniartii Baill.Red List Status -
Near Threatened (NT) , assessed in 05/04/2018Baloghia brongniartii is an endemic shrub restricted to the east coast of Grande Terre in New Caledonia (from Yaté to Houaïlou). It is found in shrubland on ultramafic substrate at an altitudinal range of 35-500 m asl. On-going mining activities impact several subpopulations. Indeed, extraction projections on the coming 25 years will lead to the decline of populations, especially in Cap Bocage (Société Moinière de la Tontouta SMT), Kouaoua (SLN and NMC), Bogota (NMC) and Nakéty (SMT). The habitat of Baloghia brongniartii is moreover degraded by bushfires and the invasie species Rusa Deer (Rusa timorensis). Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are respectively estimated to be of 1,289 and 56 km² while the number of locations is estimated to be eleven. B. brongniartii is therefore assessed as Near Threatened (NT) close to VU B1ab(i,ii,iii,iv,v)+2ab(i,ii,iii,iv,v).
