Least Concern (LC) , assessed in 05/04/2018Cleidion macrophyllum is an endemic shrub or tree of New Caledonia largely distribute in the central massifs and the northeastern massifs of the Grande Terre. This species is quite common and it occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate, from 10 to 800 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 3,317 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 72 km², C. macrophyllum is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
C. macrophyllum is endemic of New Caledonia where it is largely distributed in the central massifs and the northeastern massifs of the Grande Terre.
Population
Population size is unknown but field observations show it is a common species.
Habitat
C. macrophyllum occurs in dense humid forest on volcano-sedimentary substrate, from 10 to 800 m asl.
Threats
This species does not seem to be threatened although some subpopulations may be impacted by fires, Rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) and feral pigs (Sus scrofa).
Conservation
C. macrophyllum is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and it does occur in one protected area: Parc des Grandes Fougères.
