Macaranga corymbosa is an endemic shrub or tree of New Caledonia largely distributed from col d'Amoss in the north to Yahoué in the south of Grande Terre. It is quite common and abundant, and it occurs in dense humid forest and on various substrates, from 10 to 800 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 7,705 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 204 km², M. corymbosa is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


M. corymbosa is endemic to New Caledonia where it is largely distributed from col d'Amoss in the north to Yahoué (Dumbéa) in the south of Grande Terre.

Population


Population size is unknown but field observations show it is a common species.

Habitat


M. corymbosa occurs in dense humid forest on various substrates, from 10 m to 800 m asl.

Threats


This species does not seem to be threatened although some subpopulations may be impacted by fires, Rusa deer (Rusa timorensis) and feral pigs (Sus scrofa).

Conservation


This species is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia, but it occurs in several protected areas: Aoupinié, Mont Panié, Parc des Grandes Fougères et Vallée de la Thy.
