Macaranga vedeliana is an endemic shrub of New Caledonia largely distriduted across Grande Terre and is also found in the Belep islands and in Loyalty Islands (Maré, Lifou and Ouvéa). It is quite common and abundant, and it occurs in low coastal forest and on various substrates, up to 15 m asl. With an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 57,502 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 112 km², M. vedeliana is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

Geographical area


M. vedeliana is endemic of New Caledonia and is largely distriduted across Grande Terre and is also found in the Belep islands and in Loyalty Islands (Maré, Lifou and Ouvéa).

Population


Population size is unknown but field observations show it is a common species.

Habitat


M. vedeliana occurs in low coastal forest on various substrates (ultramafic, calcareous and volcano-sedimentary rocks), up to 15 m asl.

Threats


This species could be affected by uncontrolled bushfires and urbanisation. However due to its large distribution, this species does not appear to be threatened at the moment.

Conservation


This species is not protected by any legislation in New Caledonia and it does not occurs in any protected area.
