An endemic orchid of New Caledonia, Liparis phalacrocorax is distributed from Plateau de Dogny to Mt. Kaala. L. phalacrocorax occurs in dense humid forest and shrubland on various substrates. Despite having an area of occupancy and an extent of occurrence equal to 60 and 3,493 km² respectively, L. phalacrocorax is not thought to approach the requirements for listing as threatened. It is listed as Least Concern.

Population size is unknown.

Habitat


Liparis phalacrocorax occurs in dense humid forest and shrubland on serpentinous and schist substrates.

Threats


Liparis phalacrocorax does not seem globally threatened. Mining activities at Kaala and Taom may locally impact part of those subpopulations.

Conservation


L. phalacrocorax is protected in Province Sud and Province Nord and occurs in one protected area : réserve naturelle de la Nodéla.
