An endemic orchid of New Caledonia, Liparis zosterops is known from the northern part of Grande Terre from Mé Ori to Mont Panié. L. zosterops is a species of dense forest, shrubland and forest undergrowth on ultramafic and volcano-sedimentary substrates, at an altitudinal range of 710-1,200 m asl. With around 10 localities threatened by feral pigs and Rusa Deer (Rusa timorensis), L. zosterops is considered Near Threatened close to Vulnerable under criteria B1ab(iii)+B2ab(iii).

Threats


The main threats to Liparis zosterops are from feral pigs and Rusa Deer (Rusa timorensis), two of the most important invasive animal species on New Caledonia.

Conservation


Liparis zosterops is protected in Province Sud and in Province Nord and occurs in one protected areas: Réserve de Nature Sauvage du Mont Panié.
